So…yeah. It’s been a while. In an unfortunate turn of events, I went on a business trip that weakened my blogging abilities as kryptonite weakens Super Man but now I’m here for good and all I feel like doing is popping out of every window in my house and yelling: I’M BACK BABY!

Not sure why but all the time I was gone I felt like my blog was to me what the mop is to the woman in the Swiffer “Baby Come Back” commercials:

In celebration of my return to blogging, I’d like to kick some kryptonite a** and celebrate the color green…not one that I’m too fond of particularly but it goes with the whole post, don’t you think? Plus, it pays homage to the jade goodness that Uncle Karl brought to the runways not so long ago.

Shout Out: Didi’s World

My dear Didi has just written an interesting post about at-home beauty services (think your favorite mani, pedi, hair, etc. done at home rather than at the salon). See post here.

Apparently this is a whole new thing in the US, but lemme tell ya people, we might be a small island in the Caribbean, but we’re way ahead of you on this one. Back home, there’s an immesurable gamma of ladies that come chez toi and do everything from waxing, to manis&pedis to blowing out your hair, makeup, massages, etc.

Despite the Allure article suggesting this is for older ladies, it’s very special for women of any age to be pampered at home without the waiting, appointment-making and running around like a chicken with your head chopped off across town to and from the salons. My hero in the mani/pedi/at-home waxing/hair do’ing department is called Belkis (lemme know if you want her phone # SDQ girls). Yet she isn’t the only one doing this, all of my friends have different (and very talented) young women that pamper them at home.

I agree with Didi that services of this type will probably be more costly in the US, but hey, one deserves the best all the time, why not splurge a little?

Most of my friends are working women–I am one myself– and there are two particular friends of mine who came to mind as I created this Polyvore set.

One is currently working in the NYC fashion scene and recently got promoted (Congrats! Keep the good stuff coming!). The other got back from a whirlwind month-long job searching, LES perusing and party-hoppin’ stay in the city that never sleeps. She dreams of going back and setting up permanent camp in the big apple.

My Opinion, if You’ll Have It

Plush has gotten a whole lot plushier (if that’s even a word). The renown stuffed animal company Steiff (more info here) has teamed up with Karl Lagerfeld to create the Karl Lagerfeld Bear. Recessionistas (I hate that word, but I must admit, it works), this is your cue to roll your eyes and navigate away from this post.

The bad-ass looking furball was originally priced at a cool $1500 but now it can be purchased at Neiman Marcus.com for a humble $989. Aw, how thoughtful. So here goes my constructive criticism.

I absolutely adore Chanel. It’s definitely one of my favorite fashion labels out there and I think that Karl Lagerfeld has been a genius for brining the house into the modern world while still conserving the key traits that Mademoiselle Chanel herself embodied and worked so hard to make iconic. So yeah, there’s the constructive part of my criticism…

But Karl, what the heck are you thinking Karl? Honestly? During a recession you launch a teddy bear that goes over $1K?! I know that most of these fashion personalities do these things to receive a flabbergasted “Are you kidding me?!” response from the rest of us ‘mortals’ but I think this is pushing the line. However, the reality of the situation is without outrageous things like this, fashion would be simply another industry, and not a world of magic and fun that feeds dreamers and lovers alike. Thanks to you, Mr. Lagerfeld, for giving us the everlasting aspirations towards the unattainable.

Sound Bite in Black & White

This video sent to me by a friend inspired me to think about things black and white. I thought about Penguins, old flicks and on and on until my day dream stumbled upon Chanel and all things related. I’m very excited to see the upcoming film where Audrey Tatou (see Thinkin’ About Amelie) is playing Coco in her early years of cabaret and love affairs.

So, here’s to Spektor, penguins and Chanel.

Apart from fashion, this blog will allow some insight into my other interests: movies, quirky/funky video clips, photography, etc.

This time around the post will focus on a quirky video I found through @AdFreak on Twitter which I absolutely loved. It’s a stop-motion movie using post-its created by SCAD student, Bang-yao Liu. So without further ado, follow this link to watch =).

So, I got inspired by one of my favorite movies recently and I decided to create a set to recreate some of the things I liked from the movie: the colors, the music, the dreamy scenarios and overall, the love story. I’ve also included the introduction to one of my favorite childhood poem books: Where The Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein.

I recommend a dose of Shel Silverstein for everyone, his poems are so silly and the illustrations are quite fun as well…and if you haven’t seen Amelie already, go out and rent it! It’s lovely.:)
